It's obvious you can't go too casual, too sexy or too comfy.. but does it have too be so dull?.. I'm sorry, I'm just not a fan of wearing dark colored trousers, t-shirts and not so high heels every day of the week.
Two days ago I had a job interview.. and looking through my closet.. I realized there was only one option for me to wear. All my mini skirts, shorts, mini dresses were obviously out of the picture, so I had to choose pants.. but of course I only have jeans and one single pair of black trousers I wore ONCE like a year ago for a school thing.. so OK.. those were the ones.
The rest was easy, a short and really cool coat, black pumps and I kept it simple on the accessories... but I looked so weird... so not my style.
I wonder.. if I have to dress like another person every day to go to work.. does it mean that particular job doesn't fit myself.. or... does it mean I should grow up and start looking more serious?
I know I HAVE to look professional in any job.. but.. if for example, I owned a bar, a restaurant, a marketing advice business... or worked on TV, a magazine, in the music business... I could dress a little bit more like me... with skirts and jeans, the occasional leather jacket, more color, more accessories.. I'd be able to keep my purple high light on my hair!, wear black nail polish or not having to hide my tattoos.... if I had one! ha ha...
gosh... I just hate looking so grown up and serious... it's not me... at all.

ReplyDeleteI have had similar issues with knowing how far to take my own style at work... for interviews, I say play it safe if it's a company you really want to work for. If/when the interviewer asks if you have any questions, you can inquire about the company dress code and then decide if it's something you can really live with. If you get the job, just remember at work we often have to be a more "filtered", professional version of ourselves. The same can apply for how you dress, so if you can get away with it see about adding color, accessories, or fun textures/fabrics to traditional office attire so you aren't totally out of your element but still within dress code. You still have after work and weekends to totally be yourself!
