I've been having my thoughts about the ripped tights trend.
Although I really dig them, I'm not sure if average girls like me can get away with them. Some trends are considered too risky for the majority of people and don't really accept them, they think only celebrities are allowed to wear them... which is something I hate because, if they can why can't we?... Anyway.. I do love ripped tights but most of my friends, actually all of my friends think it's something we can't wear... "they look cool only in magazines" they say.
I wanted to prove them wrong.
I decided to rip my tights and go out on the streets to try them out, hear what people say, guess what they think or just interpret their looks.. 'cause there were a lot of looks.. specially from mom's in disapproval.. ha ha which is one of my favorite looks in the world!
One of my favorite bloggers, Cocorosa, did an amazing DIY tutorial of the ripped and embellished tights.. they turned out great!, she was even featured on Korea's Vogue Girl magazine!.. here's the DIY tutorial if you want to try it out too; I know I did. Here are some pictures of my altered tights...
I added some black sequins, black beads and little gemstones, as well as blue ones; and I also threw in a little bit of pearls.. you can just sew what ever you want.
Oh! and my Operation's result: A total success.. well, I like to think so.
The truth is everywhere I went people starred at my legs, some girls did not like them, some where amazed.. and some other old folks just thought I was nuts... but it's OK, I loved them. Two of my friends ordered me a pair as soon as they saw me walking out my doorsteps.
I think people are just afraid of fashion.... I say we should all just be ourselves and become trendsetters in our own way; style is everything.

love Love LOVE your tights! The added gemstones are precious. I love wearing my ripped leggings. But I gotta be honest at first I was afraid to wear them out but then I was like "Meh! I wear what I want!" :)
ReplyDeleteI love the gems idea. You.are.an.amazing.artist!!
ReplyDeleteI always wore my tights ripped, mostly because I tend to break them just looking at them so I kinda stopped buying new ones and just wore'em until they were totally broken.
Economization.
I was wondering something, what happens to gems in your tights when you wash'em?
Laumika:
ReplyDeleteWhat happens to gems when I wash the tights?.. well nothing actually.. of course I HAND WASH them really carefully and there's no need to be rough with the soap.. but as long as they're well sewn to the tights, the gemstones, sequins and all that stuff won't fall :)
